November 28
Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Today's Activity: We're now onto our Poetry Unit! Now while I enjoy all genres of writing, poetry seems to come the most natural to me. My mom says I must have written greeting cards in a past life!
To kick off the week, I have a Presentation on the different elements that make up poetry. Then we will be focusing on some well-known poems and writing some of our own!
This unit specifically gives us an awesome opportunity- I enter our best poems into the Creative Communications National Poetry Contest where you can win the opportunity to get published and/or a scholarship! I've had my students enter this contest for the last 11 years and every year I've had students published! Let's go for lucky number 12!!!!
We're also going to jump into our first poem, Shel Silverstein's Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout Would Not Take The Garbage Out...say that 3 times fast. Let's see how many of the poetry literary elements we can dissect from it, shall we?
