English I Honors: This is an advanced course for freshmen who have mastered the basics of English and are ready for more difficult literary work. It includes studies of Greek mythology, Shakespeare, modern short stories, poetry, and novels. Students will learn to write research papers and will have opportunities for creative writing. Students are selected for this course on the basis of past achievement, samples of written work, and teacher/counselor recommendation. An average of 90 must be maintained throughout the year in order to guarantee the next Honors English course.
