Alright, so we have A LOT happening before and during break. Here's how it's all going down!
First and foremost, Quarterly Assessments are happening on November 11. That's right! The day we come back from break. Don't worry! Don't panic! The assessment will cover things that we've discussed and mastered in class. And don't worry, I will send home a study guide for you to utilize!
Next, 1st Marking Period Extra Credit! Be sure to obtain the task in class from me...it is due November 11th. NO LATES!!! NO EXCEPTIONS!
This week before all that fun stuff...... we will be discussing self acceptance. : -) And who better to learn from but the Queen of Self Love- Gaga, and The Phenomenal Woman herself- Maya Angelou.
Also, we're going to jump back to the founder of horror and terror himself.... Edgar Allan Poe! We will be discussing his most famous poem The Raven and an excellent example of onomatopoeia, The Bells.
You will have an independent project to work on over break and it will be due November 15th. Please note you WILL NOT be given class time to work on this project.
P.S. Extra Credit if you attend class in a FULL costume!
See what I did there?! I wrote a 6-Word Memoir about Poetry! Go ahead say it..."Super Corny Mrs. McCrady!" : -P
We're now onto our Poetry Unit! Now while I enjoy all genres of writing, poetry seems to come the most natural to me. My mom says I must have written greeting cards in a past life!
To kick off the week, I have a PowerPoint Presentation on the different elements that make up poetry. Then we will be focusing on some well known poems and writing some of our own!
This unit specifically gives us an awesome opportunity- I enter our best poems into the Creative Communications National Poetry Contest where you can win the opportunity to get published and/or a scholarship! I've had my students enter this contest for the last 7 years and every year I've had students published! Let's go for lucky number 8!!!!
Conferences are also upon us- make sure you see me to sign up for a time slot!
I'm very excited to meet your families!
Hang on to your seats! We're moving on to learning how to write an effective, analytical five paragraph essay. This type of essay is crucial to know for the remainder of your educational career. I know it may seem overwhelming, but we will get through it together! Baby steps!
In the mean time, check out these two links: http://prezi.com/zxbzzpskm_c2/welcome-to-the-world-of-the-five-paragraph-essay/
I am super excited to see what you came up with for your six word memoirs!
