. . . A Charles Dickens novel. 140 characters, lots of silly names, and it goes on FOREVER! : - )
That's right! We FINISH Great Expectations this week! Isn't that exciting!
Well we've seen some radical changes in Pip and some pretty twisted story lines. Could you ever imagine that so many characters' storylines intersect?! It is like a soap opera!
Remember your character Facebook pages are due Monday- I am so anxious to see them!!!
Keep an eye out for a potential vocabulary quiz later in the week! Also, get ready.... the 3rd body paragraph for your final essay is coming up!
Have a GREAT week!
We're starting Part 3 of Great Expectations! (I know many of you are singing praises of FINALLY!!!)
Now I'm sure you've noticed how much Pip has changed once he was introduced to wealth and a rich lifestyle.; now keep in mind Pip started and lived most of his life DIRT POOR. Is it possible to ever return to those roots? What about the discovery of who is benefactor actually is?! Do you blame Pip for being upset that it's not Miss Havisham? Being it isn't her.... what does this mean for his future with Estella? Also, didn't Miss Havisham kind of lead Pip on with letting him think she was the benefactor. I mean c'mon she knew an awful lot of about his conditions and terms of his becoming a gentleman and going to England! And isn't it a bit ironic that Matthew Pocket, her relative, was chosen as his tutor/mentor? Hmmmmm things to ponder!
Remember Body Paragraph 2 is due Tuesday the 15th!
Keep your eyes peeled for a vocab quiz later this week!
We have a BIG week ahead of us!
With us concluding Part 2 of the book, we will be having our test on Friday. I will be counting this as your Marking Period 2 Quarterly Assessment- be sure to study! Honors folk: that means your Part 2 Study Guides are due Friday! A good method of attacking this is to look over any handouts from the section (summaries, homework, etc), as well as notes we've taken in class.
We also will be working on the Second Body Paragraph of our essay. Please look over the notes I've made on your First Body Paragraph and be sure to not make the same errors! I've also developed a few more tips sheets...all of which can be found on my handouts page. The Second Body Paragraph will be due on Tuesday January 15th and it counts as a TEST grade.
Joe! That's right- Joe Gargery! As we recall from previous chapters, Pip is highly ashamed of Joe. Now that he's a part of "high society" it is safe to assume that he's going to be even more ashamed of him! That's so sad! Joe has unconditionally loved Pip since he came to live with him at the Forge not to mention that he's been completely supportive in Pip's wishes to become a gentleman.
Ultimately, Joe’s visit to London will reintroduce the theme of social contrast, showing just how awkward Pip’s position between the social classes has become; he worries both that Joe will disapprove of his new life and that the figures in his new life will disapprove of Joe.
Some reminders: Your first body paragraph is due Wednesday, January 2nd. A BIG THANK YOU to those who sent me your paragraphs for review. I saw some wonderful things! This paragraph counts as a test grade! The second body paragraph will be assigned soon! Also, keep your eyes peeled for a Vocab Quiz this week! :-)
