We're coming down to the tail end of our Chaucer Unit- rounding out with something that he was very talented at...descriptive writing!
The purpose of this activity is to focus on tone and descriptive language. Tone is the feeling that comes across from writing to the reader. Descriptive language is vividly stating in words the characteristics and appearance of a person or situation. It gives an accurate account, only in words. The benefit to this type of writing is that it paints accurate pictures through writing from your mind to the reader's mind. Transfer a message the way you intended (your power!), get higher scores on the PSAT and SAT!
A fantastic book, Marlo Thomas' "The Right Words at the Right Time" is a superb example of descriptive writing! We will utilize excerpts from her book as mentors to frame our own writing.
The best advice I can give you about this is to SHOW me, don't TELL me!
